The kick-off event will take place from April 8–11 at MusicOneX in Frankfurt, Germany, one of the largest trade fairs for entertainment technology, drawing approximately 30,000 visitors.
EMA offers four distinct formats, giving performers of all types a platform to showcase their creativity on stage. Each format is tailored with unique hardware requirements, performance durations, and application focuses.
Each format will take place on different days of the trade fair on the main stage. Tickets are free—check the rules and registration details for each competition below.

DJ Format
The DJ format encourages participants to utilize a wide range of hardware for their performances, including turntables, controllers, software, and digital files, enabling creative mixing and live execution. It also embraces Modular DJing, focusing on the presentation of a 20-minute set that showcases contemporary DJ performance techniques.

Format
The DAWless format challenges participants to create and perform music using only hardware like synthesizers, drum machines, and samplers. It emphasizes real-time creativity, technical skill, and audience engagement without relying on software DAWs, focusing on hands-on artistry and innovation.

Format
The DAW format is a live, on-stage speed production challenge where you create a track from scratch using your favorite digital audio workstation and a MIDI keyboard. The entire production process is displayed in real-time on an LED wall, allowing the audience to watch and experience your creativity unfold.

Hybrid Format
The Hybrid Format competition allows participants to use any technology or art form, including music, visuals, singing, dancing, and more. It emphasizes creative freedom, innovation, and audience engagement by encouraging the seamless integration of diverse mediums for unique and dynamic performances.
